Zcash (ZEC) Surges Over 40% as Grayscale Advances Spot ETF Bid

Zcash (ZEC), the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, has recently captured significant attention with a remarkable price surge. Actions by crypto asset manager Grayscale to convert its existing Zcash Trust into a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF), coupled with increasing market trading volumes, propelled ZEC's price up by over 40%, surpassing the $800 level. This rally pushed Zcash to its highest price levels seen since November 2025.

Grayscale filed its fifth amended filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to convert the Zcash Trust into a spot ETF. According to this filing, the trust will be renamed "Zcash ETF" and is slated for listing on NYSE Arca under the ticker symbol ZCH, with an annual sponsor fee set at 2.5%. A previous amendment also disclosed that a Digital Currency Group (DCG) subsidiary was in non-binding discussions to acquire approximately 200,000 ZEC, valued at around $110 million. These developments have significantly boosted institutional interest in Zcash and created a positive market sentiment.

This sudden surge in ZEC's price resonated widely across cryptocurrency markets. Zcash futures trading volume reached millions of dollars on platforms like Coinbase, while a broader market warming to privacy-oriented assets further supported the rally. Zcash's achievement of a new multi-year high, surpassing its November 2025 peak of $750, attracted considerable investor attention.

This development once again highlighted the cryptocurrency market's emphasis on regulatory approval and institutional integration. Grayscale's successful path with Bitcoin and Ethereum, leading to spot ETF approvals, strengthened expectations that a similar precedent could be set for Zcash. The increased accessibility of privacy-focused cryptocurrencies for institutional investors could potentially open doors for other assets in this category.

Market analysts suggest that the approval of Grayscale's Zcash ETF application could generate a new wave of demand for ZEC, further supporting its price upward. However, the SEC's stance on privacy-focused assets and the uncertainty surrounding the approval process remain critical factors for investors to monitor closely. Disclosures of significant ZEC positions by major investment firms like Multicoin Capital also contribute to market optimism, indicating that Zcash's market performance will be closely watched in the coming period.
