XRP Ledger fixCleanup3_1_3 upgrade to purge expired NFT junk

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set to activate the fixCleanup3_1_3 amendment on May 27, 2026, as part of the rippled 3.1.3 release. The package bundles targeted fixes intended to remove expired NFT offer remnants and correct protocol-level accounting and trustline checks that have created edge-case inconsistencies on the ledger. The upgrade is distributed as a default-yes amendment within rippled 3.1.3 to expedite deployment of these critical fixes.

Technically, fixCleanup3_1_3 addresses several areas: automatic deletion of stale NFTokenOffer objects that could linger after certain transaction sequences, enforcement of token limit checks during VaultWithdraw operations, and corrections to loan accounting entries within the native lending protocol. These fixes are aimed at reducing the number of application-layer workarounds required by NFT marketplaces, vault services and DeFi builders on XRPL. The amendment is not intended to change token economics or transaction mechanics for XRP holders.

From an operational perspective, the amendment follows XRPL’s two-week activation window model: validators advertise support by running the new server binary and the network tallies votes; once roughly 80% support is recorded the amendment becomes active. However, node adoption has been partial and operators running older software risk becoming amendment-blocked — effectively isolating them from normal consensus and transaction processing — which poses short-term availability risks for exchanges and service providers that have not upgraded. Network operators have been urged to update promptly.

Market impact is likely to be subtle and technical rather than a direct price catalyst. Infrastructure fixes of this nature typically increase protocol reliability and reduce edge-case failures that can cause user-facing issues on NFT and DeFi platforms. Traders may see minor volatility around activation if any services temporarily degrade, but the longer-term implication is stronger ledger hygiene and fewer operational surprises for institutional and retail integrators.

Looking ahead, analysts and node operators expect that successful and timely adoption of rippled 3.1.3 will lower systemic operational risk on XRPL and smooth the path for larger feature amendments in the future. The immediate focus for developers and validators is ensuring compatibility with the new behavior for NFTokenOffer lifecycle, vault withdrawals and lending accounting, and monitoring the network for any residual edge cases post-activation. Continued transparency from the XRPL Foundation and validator operators will be key to minimizing disruption.
