Western Star Resources Inc. (CSE: WSR) has announced the commencement of a comprehensive field exploration and drill-planning program at its Eagle Point Tungsten Project in New Mexico. This strategic move is a pivotal part of the company's plan to re-evaluate the historically producing tungsten mine, acquired in June 2026, using modern exploration methodologies. The company aims to revitalize a critical mineral system that has remained largely dormant despite its significant strategic value.

The Eagle Point project is a past-producing tungsten skarn system situated within the Little Hatchet mining district of Hidalgo County, New Mexico. Historical records indicate that approximately 1,800 tons of scheelite-bearing material were shipped to the U.S. Government stockpile between 1943 and 1944. In the 1950s, the U.S. government entered into a Defense Minerals Exploration Administration (DMEA) contract to co-develop the property, which included provisions for underground drilling. However, this planned drilling program was never executed, leaving the system largely untested by modern exploration methods for over seventy years.

Western Star Resources is collaborating with Dahrouge Geological Consulting Ltd. to unlock this historical potential. The ongoing field program encompasses detailed geological and structural mapping, systematic channel and grab sampling, and the validation of proposed drill collar locations. These efforts are designed to refine drill targets in preparation for a maiden drilling program, which is anticipated to commence later in 2026. Recent sampling conducted by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has yielded high-grade tungsten values from surface samples, including up to 27.6% WO₃ (tungsten trioxide) and 0.98% Mo (molybdenum), further highlighting the project's rich mineralization potential.

Tungsten is classified as a critical mineral due to its indispensable applications in various industries, including aerospace and defense. The United States is actively seeking to bolster its domestic supply of critical minerals to reduce reliance on international sources, particularly in light of geopolitical tensions impacting global supply chains. Projects like Eagle Point could play a crucial role in achieving these strategic objectives and positioning Western Star as a significant player in the North American tungsten market. The company's progress aligns with the U.S.'s national priority for critical mineral supply security.

Analysts and market observers are closely monitoring Western Star's advancements at the Eagle Point project. The company expects to complete the current field program by the end of August and deliver a detailed field summary and assessment report by September 2026. A successful exploration phase, followed by drilling, is poised to further strengthen Western Star's U.S. critical mineral portfolio and establish it as a key contributor to the North American tungsten market.
