Unitree IPO Creates China's First Humanoid Robot Billionaire
Unitree Robotics' IPO on Shanghai's STAR Market has made 36-year-old founder Wang Xingxing China's first humanoid robot billionaire, with a $2.4 billion fortune. It aims to raise 6.1 billion yuan for product development.

Unitree Robotics, a leading Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer, is set for its initial public offering (IPO) on Shanghai's STAR Market, a move that has propelled its 36-year-old founder, Wang Xingxing, to become China's first humanoid robot billionaire. Forbes estimates Wang Xingxing's net worth, derived from his equity stake, to be $2.4 billion. This landmark public listing is seen as a significant milestone in the robotics sector, highlighting China's ambitious rise in technological innovation.
The Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics plans to raise approximately 6.1 billion yuan (around $904 million) by selling about 40.45 million shares at 150.80 yuan per share. This offering implies a market valuation of roughly 61 billion yuan (approximately $9.04 billion). Wang Xingxing, who founded Unitree in 2016, holds a combined direct and indirect stake of approximately 33.36% in the company. The company gained viral attention this year with the launch of a 3-meter-tall transformable robot. In 2025, Unitree shipped over 5,500 humanoid units globally, securing its position as a market leader in terms of shipments. The same year, the company's revenues surged over 300% year-on-year to 1.7 billion yuan, with net profit jumping almost 200% to 278.2 million yuan.
Unitree's IPO provides the first transparent valuation benchmark for the burgeoning humanoid robot sector, offering a crucial reference point for the market. In contrast to the high private valuations of US firms like Figure, Unitree's public pricing will provide a tangible, daily-priced metric that is expected to shape future market expectations and investments for other robot companies, including Tesla's Optimus. The online subscription for shares is scheduled to begin on August 10, testing investor enthusiasm for new technology stocks among Chinese retail investors.
This public offering aligns with the Chinese government's strategic support for the humanoid robot industry, as Beijing aims for global leadership in AI and robotics. Concurrently, the IPO takes place amid increasing geopolitical competition, with the US implementing new restrictions on imports of certain foreign-made connected robots. Given that the US market accounted for 13.3% of Unitree's revenue in 2025, potential new tariffs or export restrictions could impact the company's global expansion plans.
Market analysts anticipate a strong debut for Unitree's shares post-IPO. The company plans to allocate a significant portion of the proceeds from the offering to intelligent robot model research and development, robot body development, and the construction of a new intelligent manufacturing base. These investments underscore Unitree's vision to evolve beyond a mere hardware vendor, aiming to build an integrated robotics platform encompassing physical machines, AI models, and large-scale manufacturing. Such strategic moves are expected to intensify competition in the humanoid robot market while bolstering Unitree's long-term growth potential.
