Uber's Q3 Outlook Falls Short of Market Expectations
Uber's Q2 results largely met expectations, but its Q3 gross bookings and earnings forecasts fell short of analyst estimates. This led to a pre-market dip in its shares.

Uber Technologies (UBER) released its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, generally delivering a performance in line with market expectations. Despite achieving strong gross bookings growth and a significant free cash flow milestone, investor focus quickly shifted to the cautious outlook provided for the third quarter. The lower-than-expected earnings per share (EPS) and gross bookings forecasts caused Uber's stock to decline in pre-market trading.
For the second quarter, the company's gross bookings surged 24% year-over-year to $58.0 billion, surpassing its own guidance range of $56.25 billion to $57.75 billion. Revenue grew by 12% year-over-year to $14.2 billion, aligning with analyst estimates. Adjusted EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) increased by 33% year-over-year to $2.8 billion, exceeding expectations. However, non-GAAP EPS was reported at $0.81, which was slightly below some analysts' estimates of $0.83, while others noted it met their $0.81 forecast. Uber also announced that its trailing twelve-month free cash flow surpassed $10 billion for the first time, marking a significant financial achievement.
Despite the robust operational indicators in the second quarter, Uber's projections for the third quarter of 2026 failed to impress Wall Street. The company guided for third-quarter gross bookings to be between $58.25 billion and $60.25 billion. The midpoint of this range, $59.25 billion, was slightly below the average analyst estimate of $59.33 billion. Similarly, the adjusted EPS guidance of $0.84 to $0.88 fell short of the market consensus of $0.89. The company also noted that currency headwinds are expected to reduce reported growth by approximately 1 percentage point.
This cautious outlook led to Uber's shares dropping over 4% in pre-market trading. Investors reacted to concerns regarding a potential slowdown in near-term growth expectations, despite the company's strong operational performance. The slight discrepancies in gross bookings and earnings forecasts underscored the market's sensitivity to forward-looking guidance.
Uber continues to pursue its long-term strategic goals, including significant investments in autonomous vehicles and potential acquisitions. The company aims to commit over $10 billion in capital, encompassing equity investments, infrastructure, and vehicle commitments, to bring autonomous vehicles to market at scale in the coming years. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that the company is “executing with discipline today while building the capabilities we believe will define Uber’s next decade of growth.” These statements reflect the company's confidence in its long-term growth potential, despite short-term fluctuations.
Analysts and market observers note that Uber's ability to generate strong free cash flow provides a solid foundation for its future investments. However, the slightly weaker third-quarter outlook may reflect the potential impacts of global economic uncertainties and increasing competition on the technology and transportation sectors. Investors are expected to closely monitor the progress of the company's autonomous vehicle strategy and the effects of macroeconomic conditions on consumer spending in the upcoming period.
