TSMC's Sales Surge 45% Amid Robust AI Chip Demand
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, reported a nearly 45% year-over-year revenue increase in July. This strong surge clearly indicates sustained demand for AI chips and reflects dynamic shifts within the semiconductor industry.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, announced a remarkable nearly 45% year-over-year surge in its July revenue. This record-breaking performance is seen as a strong indicator of robust and sustained demand for artificial intelligence (AI) hardware, underscoring the unabated AI-driven growth in the global semiconductor sector.
The company reported consolidated revenue of NT$467.58 billion (approximately US$14.5 billion) for July 2026. This figure represents a 44.7% increase compared to the same month last year and a 5.6% rise from June. For the first seven months of 2026, TSMC's total revenue grew by 37% year-over-year, reaching NT$2.87 trillion. These monthly figures follow the company's strong performance in its second-quarter earnings, announced in July, where TSMC reported revenue of $40.2 billion, up 36% year-over-year, and a net profit jump of 77% to NT$706.6 billion ($22 billion).
TSMC serves as a critical supplier for major technology companies like Nvidia (NVDA) and Apple (AAPL), manufacturing advanced chips. The company's leading-edge manufacturing and packaging technologies enable it to significantly benefit from the rising expenditures on AI data centers. In the second quarter, advanced technologies, defined as 7-nanometer and more advanced, accounted for 77% of total wafer revenue. The rapid ramp-up of TSMC's 2-nanometer technology is also among the factors supporting this growth. The company maintained its dominance in the industry, holding approximately 70% of the global foundry market share in 2025.
This robust revenue growth has positively resonated across markets, signaling the overall vibrancy of the semiconductor sector and particularly the sustained demand for AI chips. TSMC's shares (TSM) have gained over 50% year-to-date, reflecting investor confidence in the potential for AI-driven growth. The company's scale and technological leadership make its monthly sales data a key indicator for the entire chip industry, solidifying its central role in the global technology supply chain.
Management anticipates this momentum to continue, guiding for third-quarter revenue between $44.6 billion and $45.8 billion. Furthermore, TSMC has raised its full-year 2026 revenue growth forecast to slightly above 40% in U.S. dollar terms, an increase from its previous projection of over 30%. To meet the escalating demand for AI chips, the company also increased its 2026 capital expenditure plans to a record range of $60 billion to $64 billion. These substantial capital investments underscore TSMC's commitment to expanding its production capabilities and maintaining its technological edge.
Market analysts foresee TSMC's growth momentum, fueled by AI chip demand, continuing into the foreseeable future. Needham analyst Charles Shi expects TSMC's revenue to grow by 40% in 2027 and 24% in 2028. Despite some concerns regarding data center overcapacity and returns on AI spending, experts believe TSMC's indispensable position in advanced technology manufacturing will enable the company to maintain its industry leadership.
