President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that all U.S. ships, aircraft and military personnel will remain in and around Iran “until such time as the REAL AGREEMENT reached is fully complied with,” a statement that came a day after Washington and Tehran accepted a Pakistan-mediated two-week ceasefire.

In his post Trump specified that forces would be supported with “additional ammunition, weaponry and anything else that is appropriate and necessary,” and reiterated that the pause in strikes was conditional on Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz fully and safely. The White House characterized the pause as a window to finalize a broader accord while regional mediators worked to translate the ceasefire into implementation steps.

Markets reacted swiftly to the news: oil prices fell as traders pared a portion of the war premium and Gulf equities rallied on hopes of a temporary easing in supply disruption risk. Financial analysts, however, warned the ceasefire’s short duration and vague verification measures left a high possibility of renewed volatility if talks falter.

The truce follows nearly six weeks of intense hostilities that disrupted regional security and global energy flows, elevating the economic stakes for commodity markets and shipping routes. Pakistan’s diplomacy was credited with brokering the pause, yet differences in each side’s account of terms—particularly regarding control and fees for strait transit—underscore the fragility of the arrangement.

Strategists say the U.S. decision to keep forces deployed serves two aims: to maintain leverage during negotiations and to deter immediate violations. That posture, however, carries costs and political risks; investors will closely watch whether Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz, the mechanisms for monitoring compliance, and any follow-up diplomatic commitments that could convert the two-week window into a longer-lasting resolution.
