Trump Media & Technology Group (NASDAQ: DJT), the parent company of the Truth Social platform, has divested another significant portion of its Bitcoin holdings. According to on-chain data, the company transferred 2,628 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at approximately $165 million, to the cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com on August 2, 2026. This latest transaction brings Trump Media's total reported Bitcoin sales over the past seven months to 7,281 BTC, leaving the company with 4,261 BTC in its holdings.

The company originally acquired a total of 11,542 BTC between July and August 2025, at an average price of around $118,500 per coin, representing an investment of approximately $1.37 billion. However, subsequent declines in Bitcoin prices have led to substantial losses for Trump Media's cryptocurrency strategy. The average price for these realized sales hovered around $74,855, resulting in an estimated realized loss of approximately $318 million from these transactions.

Furthermore, Trump Media currently faces an unrealized loss of approximately $237 million on its remaining 4,261 BTC holdings. The cumulative realized and unrealized losses from the company's Bitcoin investments are estimated to have reached roughly $555 million. This clearly indicates the adverse impact of the company's digital asset strategy on its financial performance.

Despite this large-scale Bitcoin transfer, the price of Bitcoin (BTCUSD) in the broader cryptocurrency markets showed minimal fluctuation, with the market largely absorbing the supply. Nevertheless, shares of Trump Media (DJT) have fallen by approximately 60% over the past 12 months, putting significant pressure on investors. The company reported a net loss of $405.9 million in the first quarter of 2026, with a substantial portion of these losses attributed to unrealized valuation losses on digital assets.

The company's Bitcoin strategy was initially perceived as an effort to strengthen its balance sheet and manage liquidity. However, high-cost acquisitions followed by market downturns have forced the company to sell its assets at a loss. It is also noted that the remaining 4,260.73 BTC is pledged as collateral against convertible notes until no later than May 2028. This factor significantly limits the company's financial flexibility.

Analysts and market observers suggest that Trump Media's continued sales are driven by the need to cover operational losses and enhance liquidity. The recent launch of Truth API, a paid data feed for institutional clients, is also seen as an attempt to diversify revenue streams. However, future movements in Bitcoin prices and the company's overall financial performance will be crucial in determining the long-term success of these strategies.
