Treasury raises 37 billion TRY via two bonds including pre-auction

Turkey’s Treasury and Finance Ministry continued its domestic funding program by issuing a 2-year fixed-coupon bond and a 4-year CPI-indexed bond, raising roughly 37 billion TRY when auction proceeds and pre-auction allocations are combined.

At auction, net sales totaled 13.4 billion TRY: the 2-year fixed coupon reissue attracted 14.8 billion TRY in bids with 9.82 billion TRY sold net, while the 4-year CPI-linked benchmark received 5.13 billion TRY in bids with 3.61 billion TRY sold net. Pre-auction placements to market makers and public institutions added about 23.5 billion TRY to the total funding amount.

The coupon and yield outcome were notable: the 2-year paper carried a semi-annual coupon of 18.40%, with a compound yield around 41.80%, while the 4-year CPI-linked issue had a real coupon of 2.63% and a real compound yield near 5.48%. These rates reflect elevated short-term borrowing costs and the pricing of inflation expectations by market participants.

This funding round illustrates the Treasury’s use of both auction channels and non-competitive pre-auction placements to meet financing needs. High compound yields increase debt servicing burdens and will interact with monetary policy signals from the Central Bank as well as exchange rate dynamics in shaping borrowing conditions going forward.

Market analysts say near-term yield movements will remain sensitive to inflation prints, Central Bank policy decisions and foreign portfolio flows. The Treasury is expected to calibrate future auctions and pre-placement sizes in response to demand conditions, with upcoming inflation and liquidity data likely to drive the next leg of price discovery in local debt markets.
