Tokenized RWA market grows 420% since 2025 on regulatory clarity

The tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market has expanded roughly 420% since the start of 2025, pushing total onchain RWA valuations toward $30 billion as regulatory clarity and broader institutional access accelerated adoption. Market observers say tokenization is evolving from experimentation to an institutional distribution layer for traditional assets.

Tokenized U.S. Treasurys were among the fastest-growing segments: data show market capitalization rising from about $3.9 billion at the beginning of 2025 to more than $15 billion as short-duration Treasury and money-market style token products gained traction. Other RWA categories—including private credit, tokenized commodities and tokenized funds—also posted significant gains during 2025.

Regulatory and infrastructure developments played a catalytic role. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) announced a partnership and received regulatory relief to pilot a tokenization service for DTC‑custodied securities, and SEC staff issued related no‑action guidance—moves that reduced legal uncertainty for institutional issuers and distributors. These formal steps have encouraged major asset managers and custodians to accelerate tokenized product offerings.

Practically, tokenized Treasurys offer onchain settlement, programmable compliance and potential benefits for collateral management and treasury operations, while supporting 24/7 trading windows. Research from established digital-asset market analysts indicates tokenized Treasury products are likely to remain the backbone of near‑term RWA growth as firms integrate these instruments into custody and trading workflows.

Analysts caution that further standardization of legal frameworks, custody arrangements and reporting will be necessary to sustain long-term institutional inflows. Still, with infrastructure pilots and clearer regulatory signals advancing, the consensus view is for continued expansion of the RWA ecosystem, with tokenized Treasurys and money-market style wrappers leading the next phase of adoption.
