Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, has announced a leadership transition in its investment division. Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Richard Heathcote has stepped down from his role, with former Deputy CIO Zachary Lyons appointed as his successor.

Heathcote had been a key figure overseeing Tether’s vast investment portfolio, which includes reserves backing the USDT stablecoin. The portfolio is known to include large holdings of U.S. Treasury securities and other liquid assets designed to maintain the stability of the dollar-pegged token. During his tenure, Tether worked to strengthen transparency around its reserves and deepen relationships with traditional financial institutions.

Zachary Lyons previously served as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and had advised Tether on its broader asset portfolio before taking on a formal leadership role. He also led parts of the company’s venture investment activities, overseeing a team of investment professionals and a portfolio that includes numerous technology and crypto-related companies.

A graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, Lyons brings experience bridging digital asset markets and traditional finance. His appointment signals Tether’s focus on professionalizing the management of its rapidly expanding reserves and investment operations.
