Rivian Automotive is preparing to launch its new midsize electric SUV, the R2, with customer deliveries expected to begin in spring 2026. The model is positioned as a more affordable offering compared with the company’s premium R1T pickup and R1S SUV.

According to recently surfaced details, the initial launch version of the R2 is expected to start at about $57,990 before destination charges. The first configuration will reportedly be a dual‑motor performance variant, offering a higher‑end setup at launch before lower‑priced trims arrive later.

Rivian has previously indicated that the R2 will eventually start at around $45,000, but that base model is expected to arrive after the initial launch variants. By introducing a higher‑spec version first, the company aims to simplify early production and maximize revenue as manufacturing ramps up.

Production of the R2 will take place at Rivian’s plant in Normal, Illinois, with manufacturing scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. The company is targeting roughly 20,000 to 25,000 deliveries of the new SUV during 2026 as it expands beyond its premium vehicle lineup and competes more directly in the rapidly growing mid‑priced electric SUV segment.
