Rivian R2 to Launch With $58,000 Variant as Deliveries Start This Spring

Rivian is preparing to begin customer deliveries of its highly anticipated R2 electric SUV in the first half of 2026, marking a key step in the company’s push toward higher‑volume models. The initial launch version is expected to start at roughly $58,000 and will arrive as a well‑equipped configuration aimed at early buyers.

The first R2 offered to customers will feature a dual‑motor, all‑wheel‑drive setup. Rivian executives have indicated that the company will start production with a limited number of configurations to simplify manufacturing and accelerate the initial ramp‑up. CEO RJ Scaringe has said the launch configuration will be a well‑equipped version designed to appeal to a broad group of customers.

Production of the R2 will initially take place at Rivian’s plant in Normal, Illinois. The company shifted early production to this facility to bring the vehicle to market faster and reduce near‑term capital spending. Manufacturing is expected to start in the first half of 2026, with output gradually ramping up through the year.

The R2 is widely seen by analysts as a pivotal model for Rivian. While the first launch variant carries a higher price, the company still plans a more affordable entry version starting around $45,000 later in the product cycle, which could significantly expand Rivian’s addressable market and support future delivery growth.
