OpenClaw, an open‑source artificial intelligence agent capable of executing tasks on computers through natural‑language commands, is triggering a new wave of competition among Chinese technology companies. The software has quickly gained traction among developers, businesses and individual users, with reports indicating that usage in China has already surpassed that of the United States.

Major Chinese internet and cloud companies are moving swiftly to integrate OpenClaw-based capabilities into their platforms. Tencent has introduced WorkBuddy, an AI workplace assistant compatible with the system, while Baidu has embedded OpenClaw functions into its ecosystem. Zhipu AI launched AutoClaw as a localized version of the agent, and Alibaba Cloud alongside other technology firms has begun offering one‑click deployment services.

The rapid adoption is also boosting demand for lower‑cost Chinese large language models. OpenClaw can run with domestic models such as DeepSeek, GLM and Moonshot AI’s Kimi, allowing companies to reduce costs while building AI‑powered automation tools. Industry analysts say AI agents could become a key productivity layer across enterprise software, enabling automation of tasks such as coding, scheduling and workflow management.

Despite the surge in interest, cybersecurity authorities in China have warned about potential risks linked to the software’s default security settings. Because AI agents like OpenClaw require elevated system permissions to operate autonomously, regulators have urged users and companies to strengthen security configurations. Even with these concerns, the rapid development of the OpenClaw ecosystem is accelerating China’s push to expand its presence in the global AI agent market.
