Nordique Critical Metals Files Preliminary Economic Assessment for Kwyjibo Rare Earth Project
Nordique Critical Metals Inc. has filed its preliminary economic assessment technical report for the Kwyjibo Rare Earth Project in Quebec, Canada. This report is a crucial condition for the company to complete its option to acquire up to an 80% interest in the project, highlighting its robust financial potential and strategic importance in critical minerals.
Nordique Critical Metals Inc. (formerly Consolidated Lithium Metals Inc.) has filed its preliminary economic assessment (PEA) technical report for the Kwyjibo Rare Earth Project in Quebec, Canada, in compliance with National Instrument 43-101 Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects. This filing represents a critical milestone for the company as it moves to complete its option to earn up to an 80% undivided interest in the Kwyjibo project.
The company submitted the report to the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) on August 12, 2026, and it is expected to be filed on the SEDAR+ platform in late August 2026, subject to feedback from the exchange. The updated PEA results, previously announced on July 2, 2026, underscored the project's economic viability, projecting an after-tax net present value (NPV) of CAD 1.4 billion (US$987 million) at an 8% discount rate and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 35%. The estimated payback period for the project is a mere two years.
The Kwyjibo project is anticipated to produce an average of 9,800 to 10,000 tonnes of total rare earth oxides (TREO) per year over a 10-year mine life. It boasts 8.48 million measured and indicated tonnes grading 2.45% TREO, in addition to 1.83 million inferred tonnes grading 3.27% TREO. Critical rare earth oxides constitute 45.5% of these resources, with dysprosium, terbium, neodymium, praseodymium, and yttrium expected to account for 91% of the project's revenue.
This development sends a positive signal to the rare earth elements market, especially given the escalating global demand for critical minerals vital for clean energy supply chains. The Kwyjibo project is well-positioned to significantly contribute to North America's strategic objective of establishing robust rare earth stockpiles. Nordique Critical Metals has also incorporated significant enhancements and refinements to address community concerns regarding the project's environmental footprint, proposing a minimal surface area and off-site processing facilities.
Analysts and market observers view Nordique Critical Metals' move as a crucial step in its strategy to strengthen its critical minerals portfolio and support the ongoing energy transition. The project's location in a stable jurisdiction further enhances its strategic value, particularly in an era of increasing geopolitical risks and the growing importance of diversifying supply chains. Moving forward, the company's stock performance and its standing in the rare earth market will be closely monitored as the TSXV's approval and project advancement unfold.
