Luxury Giant Hermes Posts Strong Sales Growth, Exceeding Market Expectations
Luxury fashion house Hermes announced a 6.7% increase in its second-quarter sales, adjusted for currency movements, reaching €4.1 billion. This robust performance was bolstered by a recovery in European tourism and solid demand in the United States.
French luxury group Hermes recorded a significant acceleration in its sales during the second quarter of 2026, surpassing market expectations. The company announced that its revenue, excluding currency effects, rose by 6.7% to €4.1 billion compared to the same period last year. This result represents an acceleration from the 6% growth seen in the first quarter, indicating a selective recovery within the global luxury sector.
According to the company's statement, this strong growth was primarily driven by a resurgence in tourism across Europe and robust demand in the U.S. market. Sales of products, including handbags, silk scarves, and perfumes, increased in line with expectations. Notably, the leather goods division, Hermes' largest segment, saw a significant 10.2% increase in the quarter. Sales in Japan and the Americas both experienced double-digit growth, while sales in the Middle East saw a 2.4% decline. Revenues from perfume and beauty products, however, fell by 9.5%, raising questions about their appeal among aspirational middle-class shoppers.
Hermes' performance stands in sharp contrast to the disappointing second-quarter results reported by industry peer LVMH, whose fashion and leather goods sales grew by only approximately 1%, falling short of investor expectations. This situation suggests that the luxury sector's recovery is not uniform, and high-end, niche brands may exhibit greater resilience. Hermes' stock (RMS) has also seen a 0.63% increase in the past 24 hours.
This development highlights that demand for high-end luxury goods can remain strong in specific regions and segments despite global economic uncertainties. Increased tourism activity in Europe and the spending habits of American consumers play a crucial role in the revenue statements of luxury brands. However, geopolitical tensions, such as the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, continue to negatively impact sales in regions like the Middle East.
Analysts and market observers attribute Hermes' solid performance this quarter to the brand's strong positioning and the loyalty of its customer base. The company maintains ambitious medium-term goals for revenue growth at constant exchange rates, despite adverse currency impacts. Hermes Executive Chairman Axel Dumas stated that the company looks to the second half of 2026 with confidence, following the robust performance in the first half. Market expectations suggest that the luxury sector's recovery will continue slowly but steadily.
