Kazakhstan is set to reduce crude loadings via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal at Novorossiysk in the coming period, a move that coincides with unprecedented supply disruptions from the Middle East hitting European refineries.

The situation has evolved after a series of operational setbacks at the CPC Black Sea terminal — including adverse weather, maintenance and reported drone damage — which industry monitors say have cut shipments to roughly 800,000–900,000 barrels per day in affected months. Official statements and trade sources have repeatedly pointed to constrained loading schedules and rerouting where possible.

For Europe, the impact is compounding: shipments of jet fuel and other middle distillates from the Middle East have been severely curtailed amid regional conflict, forcing refiners to reconfigure runs to maximize critical product yields and drawing down inventories. Market reports show European jet-fuel imports from the Middle East fell sharply, stoking concerns over supply tightness ahead of peak summer demand.

Structurally, the reliance of Kazakh crude exports on the CPC route to Novorossiysk remains a vulnerability. While Kazakhstan’s energy ministry and CPC have at times described shipments as stable, a pattern of episodic outages and regulatory or security-driven interruptions underlines the need for alternative corridors and contingency logistics for exporters and buyers alike.

Analysts warn that unless Middle East export routes normalize and CPC loadings return to planned levels, Europe could face sustained pressure on refined product balances and higher volatility in physical cargo markets. Traders and refiners are watching CPC loading programs, Black Sea terminal notices and on-the-ground developments closely as they adjust procurement and inventory strategies for the summer months.
