Malaysia’s Karex Berhad, the world’s largest condom manufacturer, said it will raise prices as disruptions related to the war around Iran push up the cost of key inputs and logistics. Chief Executive Goh Miah Kiat told reporters the company expects to increase prices by about 20%–30%, with the possibility of further rises if supply-chain problems persist.

The company cited sharp increases in the cost of petrochemical-based inputs such as synthetic rubber and nitrile, as well as higher prices for aluminium foil and silicone oil used in packaging and production. Rising freight rates and extended shipping times have compounded the pressure, leaving some customers with reduced stock levels and delayed deliveries. Goh said the firm had “no choice but to transfer the costs” to buyers.

Karex’s scale amplifies the market impact: it manufactures more than five billion condoms annually and supplies major private brands and public health programmes, meaning the price move could ripple through both retail channels and procurement contracts. Several markets are already reporting stretched inventories and longer-than-usual vessel transit times, which have tightened near-term availability.

Economically, the price hikes underscore how a regional conflict can transmit to unexpected consumer goods through energy, petrochemical and shipping channels. Reported hikes in raw material costs — in some cases around 25%–30% since the conflict began — together with higher logistics bills, have narrowed margins and prompted the producer to pass costs to customers. Investors will also watch Karex’s listed equity for market reaction.

Market observers say the outlook depends on whether the Iran-related disruptions ease. If energy and supply pressures persist, further increases or long-term elevated prices are likely, which could affect public health procurement budgets and consumer prices in vulnerable markets. If shipping and input markets normalize, the company may moderate hikes or stabilize pricing. Policymakers and large buyers are expected to reassess procurement strategies in response to the new cost environment.
