Gates Foundation to Cut 20% of Staff, Launch External Epstein Review

According to the foundation’s communications, the headcount reduction could total about 500 positions by 2030 and will be executed through a mix of attrition and targeted layoffs; the organization also plans to cap operating costs while increasing spending on programmatic priorities. For 2026 the foundation approved a record operating budget—around $9 billion—while simultaneously setting limits on administrative spending to direct more funds toward global health, education and other program areas.
