Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar highlighted that developments around the Strait of Hormuz have once again demonstrated the vital importance of international cooperation in energy security. Speaking after the 7th Turkish-German Energy Forum in Ankara, Minister Bayraktar stated that Turkey aims to further strengthen its existing partnership with Germany in energy and critical minerals.

During a joint press conference with German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche following the forum, Bayraktar emphasized that the Turkish-German Energy Forum continues to grow each year, becoming a crucial platform for energy companies from both countries. He noted Turkey's rich diversity in mineral resources, stressing the significant importance of cooperation, especially in critical minerals. Accordingly, the forum's scope has been expanded and rebranded as the 'Energy and Minerals Cooperation Forum.'

The potential for crises in the Strait of Hormuz to impact the global economy underscores how critical the security of energy transit routes is. Turkey, in the face of such geopolitical tensions, not only ensures its own supply security but also contributes to Europe's energy supply security through its infrastructure investments in the region. Minister Bayraktar stated that the financial strength of the German government and German companies acting as partners with Turkey in this process is crucial for achieving these goals.

German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche emphasized that energy security is no longer merely an economic issue but also a geopolitical one. Reiche noted that Turkey holds a significant position as an energy hub for Europe, with approximately 10% of the EU's natural gas imports passing through Turkey. She added that developments around the Strait of Hormuz once again highlight the importance of diversifying energy sources and making joint infrastructure investments.

Turkey's accelerated investments in renewable energy in line with its carbon-neutral targets by 2053, and its plans to significantly increase wind and solar energy capacity by 2035, reinforce the potential for cooperation with Germany. Analysts anticipate that such strategic partnerships will contribute to mitigating fluctuations in global energy markets and accelerating the energy transition process. This strong integration between the two countries is also noted for its strategic importance for Europe's competitiveness and the resilience of global supply chains.
