British pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against South Korean technology firm Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) in a U.S. federal court seeking at least $15 million, alleging the company used a copyrighted photograph of her on cardboard television packaging without authorization.

According to the complaint, the image—titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024”—is owned by Lipa, who discovered its use on Samsung TV boxes in June 2025 and requested the company cease and desist; the filing alleges Samsung refused to stop and that the complaint was lodged on May 8, 2026 in the Central District of California.

The suit claims Samsung’s packaging conveyed a false impression of endorsement, enabling the company to commercially benefit from Lipa’s likeness. Legal counts include copyright infringement, violation of publicity rights under California law and claims under the Lanham Act for false endorsement, with the complaint citing social-media examples suggesting some consumers were influenced by the image on retail boxes.
