Dogecoin and BNB Lead Gains as Bitcoin Slips Near $63,700
Dogecoin and BNB recently led major cryptocurrencies higher, outperforming Bitcoin, which saw its price slip near $63,700. DOGE gained almost 3% to 7 cents, while BNB rose 2% to $614. Bitcoin was notably the only major token in the red on both daily and weekly charts.

A notable divergence has emerged in the cryptocurrency markets recently, with Dogecoin (DOGE) and BNB, the native token of the Binance ecosystem, posting significant gains despite a broader market downturn. This upward momentum occurred as Bitcoin (BTC), the flagship cryptocurrency, experienced a decline in its value. Dogecoin surged by almost 3% to trade just above 7 cents, extending its weekly gains to nearly 3%. Concurrently, BNB registered a 2% increase, reaching $614, and marked an approximate 2% rise over the past seven days.
These gains for Dogecoin and BNB contrasted sharply with Bitcoin's performance, which slipped near the $63,700 mark. Bitcoin recorded a 2% fall over the previous two days and was the sole major token to be in negative territory on both daily and weekly charts. Among other prominent altcoins, Tron advanced by almost 1% to just under 34 cents, securing a weekly gain of over 2%. XRP, while adding over half a percent to trade above $1, posted the weakest weekly performance among the majors, declining by 5%. Solana and Ether also saw modest increases, reaching $76 and $1,890 respectively, with Solana up 3% over seven days.
The current crypto market dynamics are unfolding against a backdrop of evolving macroeconomic indicators and geopolitical tensions. Concerns over inflation, fueled by rising oil prices, have put pressure on risk assets ahead of the upcoming U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data release. Brent crude oil continued its ascent, rising over 1% to approach $90 a barrel, marking its sixth consecutive session of gains. Furthermore, ongoing geopolitical issues, particularly the conflict between the U.S. and Iran and uncertainties surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, contribute to market apprehension.
In contrast to the crypto market's mixed signals, traditional equity markets exhibited strength, primarily driven by robust earnings reports. South Korea's Kospi index rallied by 4.6%, with technology giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix each jumping around 7% amid optimism regarding shareholder returns. This highlights a partial decoupling of the crypto market from traditional assets, although Bitcoin's performance was also impacted by net outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
Market analysts are closely monitoring the forthcoming U.S. inflation figures and potential diplomatic resolutions concerning the Strait of Hormuz, which are expected to dictate market direction in the short term. Jeff Mei, Chief Operating Officer at BTSE, suggested that weak U.S. job numbers from the previous week could bolster expectations for Federal Reserve rate cuts by year-end, thereby injecting liquidity and supporting risk assets like Bitcoin. However, analysts caution that any hawkish statements from Fed officials could temper market sentiment. A relief rally remains a possibility if this week's CPI data comes in lower than anticipated, providing a much-needed boost to the broader market.
