The digital health sector has experienced a significant influx of financing in the first half of 2026, becoming a focal point for investors. According to Rock Health reports, digital health startups in the U.S. raised a total of $7.4 billion in investment during the first six months of the year. This figure surpasses the $6.4 billion in funding observed in the same period of 2025, highlighting a strong recovery and growing interest in the sector. Notably, solutions powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and wearable devices are among the primary drivers of this funding wave.

This resurgence in the sector occurred through 244 deals, with second-quarter funding totaling $3.2 billion, slightly lower than the $4.2 billion in the first quarter, yet indicating a positive overall trend. Investors are increasingly leaning towards "mega-deals" exceeding $100 million. In the first half of 2026, 19 companies secured 20 mega-deals, accounting for 45% of the total invested capital. This demonstrates a concentration of capital in a select number of high-potential ventures. For instance, wearable technology company Whoop raised $575 million, while Oura secured over $900 million in 2025.

Wearable technologies stand out as a particularly lucrative segment within digital health funding. The industry is projected to reach a market capitalization of $230 billion by 2033, and the global wearable medical device market is expected to grow from $68.1 billion in 2026 to $330.5 billion by 2033, exhibiting a CAGR of 29.5%. AI-enabled companies captured 54% of total funding in 2025, commanding a 19% premium on average deal size. These developments are supported by patients' increasing desire to track their own health data and the innovative solutions offered by these devices.

The digital health sector is experiencing an AI-powered rebound following a post-pandemic "reset" period in 2023 and 2024. Investors are now prioritizing companies that offer measurable results over mere "hype," focusing on those with healthcare expertise and workflow orchestration capabilities. Merger and acquisition (M&A) activities have also accelerated during this period, with 115 acquisitions recorded in the first half of 2026. However, after seven initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2025, no IPOs have yet occurred in 2026, suggesting that companies are exploring alternative exit strategies.

In the broader economic and technological context, the accelerating AI race is fueling innovation in digital health. Patients are becoming more eager to adopt wearable devices to monitor various factors such as sleep tracking, stress management, and behavioral health. Additionally, clinical indications like weight management/obesity (alongside the GLP-1 market) and mental health are among the most heavily funded areas. This trend indicates that digital health solutions are not just technological novelties but address a broad societal need.

Analysts and market expectations suggest that digital health funding will remain selective in 2026. Capital is anticipated to concentrate on late-stage companies demonstrating EBITDA visibility, enterprise adoption, and defensible data assets. Early-stage funding, outside of priority categories such as AI-enabled workflow automation and infrastructure, may remain constrained. The global digital health market is projected to reach $946.04 billion by 2030, with strategic M&A activities also expected to increase throughout 2026.
