Crypto Not a Voter Priority in US Midterms: Poll Finds 4% Weigh It

A POLITICO poll conducted by Public First shows that just 4% of U.S. adults say a candidate’s stance on cryptocurrency policy would influence how they vote, indicating crypto is a low-priority issue for most voters.

The survey polled 2,035 adults and collected responses in mid-April (April 11–14), with results weighted to reflect demographic composition. Respondents were also asked which issues Congress should prioritize, and cryptocurrency regulation ranked well below housing affordability, consumer fraud protection and lower bank fees.

Beyond the 4% headline, the poll captured broader sentiment: roughly 45% of Americans view investing in crypto as not worth the risk, while about 18% listed crypto regulation as a top congressional priority. Those figures suggest that everyday economic concerns continue to dominate voter attention ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The results complicate the calculus for industry political spending. Pro-crypto super PACs and industry groups have funneled large sums into campaigns, but the poll implies such spending may not translate directly into broad electoral support and could even provoke backlash if voters associate candidates with unpopular industries. Political strategists warn the return on these investments may be uneven and contingent on local dynamics.

Analysts note important caveats: other surveys, including recent HarrisX data, show higher levels of issue salience among specific subgroups—particularly among crypto owners or in battleground districts—indicating heterogeneity across the electorate. Policymakers weighing bills on crypto regulation should consider this mixed picture: while the issue remains niche for the general electorate, it carries disproportionate weight in targeted constituencies and could influence close races.
