Copper Markets US Becomes SEC-Registered Broker-Dealer and FINRA Member
Copper Markets (US) Inc., the U.S. arm of digital asset infrastructure provider Copper, has established a regulated presence in the U.S. by becoming an SEC-registered broker-dealer and a member of FINRA. This move will enable the firm to offer qualified custody, staking, financing, and over-the-counter (OTC) services to institutional clients.

Copper Markets (US) Inc., the U.S. entity of digital asset infrastructure provider Copper, has achieved a regulated status in the U.S. market by becoming a registered broker-dealer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). This significant development is a critical part of Copper's strategy to expand its institutional custody and trading infrastructure into the world's largest capital market.
According to FINRA BrokerCheck records, Copper Markets' SEC registration status was approved on August 7, and the firm will now offer qualified custody, staking, financing solutions, and over-the-counter (OTC) services to institutional clients. Furthermore, the company will provide access to its ClearLoop Network, a custodian-agnostic platform for connecting derivative counterparties for pledging and moving crypto and tokenized assets as collateral. ClearLoop aims to reduce operational fragmentation and support more efficient use of capital by enabling participating institutions to manage and mobilize collateral across connected trading venues.
This regulatory approval establishes Copper's presence in the U.S. as a “Qualified Custodian.” Under SEC rules, registered broker-dealers that hold client assets in customer accounts can qualify as custodians. This move positions Copper to compete more directly with other regulated digital asset service providers, such as BitGo and Anchorage Digital, by strengthening its ability to position custody, collateral mobility, and trading services in a market where compliance status remains a key factor for adoption.
The timing of this development coincides with increased scrutiny from U.S. regulators on digital asset firms. A broker-dealer registration enables participation in securities markets and supports activities involving tokenized securities, capital raising, and institutional financial services. Copper's decision to pursue FINRA broker-dealer registration reflects a broader strategic focus on building infrastructure for regulated capital markets, rather than solely concentrating on cryptocurrency trading or custody.
Amar Kuchinad, CEO of Copper, commented on the firm's membership, stating, “At Copper, we are focused on reducing friction, increasing efficiency, and automating how institutions operate across all financial markets. Establishing our regulated presence in the United States is an important step in bringing that infrastructure to the world's largest capital market.” This regulatory approval could pave the way for Copper to attract more U.S.-based institutional clients, including hedge funds, asset managers, and family offices.
