Bitcoin Surges as Trump Hosts Crypto Executives at White House, Urges CLARITY Act Passage
Bitcoin approached the $70,000 mark after US President Donald Trump hosted crypto industry executives at the White House and called for the passage of the CLARITY Act. This development fueled expectations for regulatory clarity and triggered a broad rally across the cryptocurrency market.

Bitcoin (BTC) surged, nearing the $70,000 mark for the first time since early June, following an impactful meeting at the White House where U.S. President Donald Trump hosted leading cryptocurrency industry executives. During the gathering, President Trump urged Congress to pass the stalled Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, commonly known as the CLARITY Act, emphasizing its critical role in solidifying the United States' leadership in emerging technologies. Trump characterized cryptocurrencies as a "financial technology that has the potential to create more jobs, opportunity, and wealth for all Americans."
The high-profile meeting on Wednesday saw the attendance of prominent figures, including Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Payward (operator of the Kraken exchange) co-CEO Arjun Sethi, and Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev. Also present were key regulators, such as U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Mike Selig. President Trump specifically called for Congress to pass a "fair version of the Clarity Act," describing it as a "very, very powerful structured legislation which will keep us ahead of China, keep us ahead of everyone else." The CLARITY Act aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for digital assets, defining their classification as either securities or commodities, clarifying the jurisdiction of regulatory bodies like the SEC and CFTC, and setting rules for exchanges.
In the wake of the meeting, Bitcoin's price jumped by over 8.5% from Tuesday's levels, reaching $69,825 and marking its highest point since early June. Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, also saw a significant gain of over 18% to $2,261.26. Other major cryptocurrencies, including Solana (SOL), Binance Coin (BNB), XRP, and Dogecoin (DOGE), experienced substantial rallies. This broader crypto market surge was further supported by a decline in U.S. Treasury yields and a weaker dollar, driven by the U.S. Treasury Department's announcement to double the size of its debt buyback operations, which boosted risk appetite. Additionally, optimism was fueled by the SEC's recent proposal for rule changes that would exempt certain digital asset offerings from securities registration requirements, aiming to provide more favorable conditions for the industry.
Despite passing the House, the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate due to disagreements over ethics provisions, partly stemming from President Trump's reported personal financial involvement in crypto ventures. The Trump administration has consistently adopted a pro-crypto stance, articulating a vision for the U.S. to become the global crypto capital. Concerns about regulatory uncertainty hindering innovation and the risk of the U.S. falling behind competitors like China in technological advancements underscore the urgency of such legislation.
Market analysts anticipate that the enactment of the CLARITY Act would provide long-term stability and foster growth within the U.S. cryptocurrency sector. Clear rules for digital asset classification are expected to enhance investor protection while simultaneously encouraging innovation in the industry. However, the legislative path remains uncertain due to ongoing political friction and ethical debates in the Senate. The industry hopes that regulators will continue to take proactive steps in the face of congressional inaction, but emphasizes the need for a comprehensive legal framework to ensure lasting clarity and foster a robust domestic digital asset ecosystem.
