Bitcoin ETF Inflows Hit $2.07 Billion, Ether ETFs See Largest Inflow Since October
Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw a record $2.07 billion in cumulative inflows in August, coinciding with Bitcoin climbing above $75,000. Simultaneously, Ether ETFs recorded their largest single-day inflow since October 2025, signaling renewed institutional interest.

Institutional interest in the cryptocurrency markets has reignited, with Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) reaching a 2026 high of $2.07 billion in cumulative net inflows during August. These robust inflows coincided with Bitcoin's significant rally, pushing its price above the $75,000 mark. Concurrently, Ether ETFs also experienced their largest single-day inflow since October 2025, recording $220.77 million on August 20.
Several key factors underpin this remarkable surge. The U.S. Treasury's decision to increase long-dated bond buybacks contributed to lower bond yields and a weaker dollar, revitalizing appetite for risk assets across financial markets. This macroeconomic shift provided a fertile ground for a broad-based rally in cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, the market witnessed record levels of short position liquidations, with over $1.25 billion in crypto short positions closed in a single day, approximately $750 million of which were bets against Bitcoin.
On the Ethereum front, BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) led the charge with $173.3 million in inflows on August 20, with significant contributions also coming from Fidelity and Grayscale funds. This indicates a re-acceleration of institutional demand for Ether. Bitcoin has surged by nearly 20% over the past four days, reaching $75,161 and trading above $75,000 for the first time since May. Ether, not to be outdone, climbed by 25% to levels around $2,374.
This overall positive momentum in the market was further bolstered by noticeable improvements in U.S. regulatory expectations. The Republican Party hosting crypto leaders at the White House and President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act were perceived as positive signals for the industry. This legislation aims to establish a clear legal framework for digital assets, distinguishing between securities and commodities.
However, some analysts caution that the current rally might be largely driven by short covering and market mechanics rather than genuine underlying demand. These analysts emphasize that sustained new capital inflows and broader macroeconomic support are crucial for the trend's long-term viability. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has risen to 68, firmly placing overall market sentiment in 'greed' territory.
Looking ahead, the continuation of the U.S. Treasury's bond buyback program and regulatory developments such as the CLARITY Act will play significant roles in shaping the trajectory of cryptocurrency markets. The increasing institutional investor interest and prevailing liquidity conditions are expected to remain decisive factors influencing the price movements of leading crypto assets like Bitcoin and Ether.
