Bitcoin.com Integrates UAE-Regulated USDU Stablecoin into Self-Custodial Wallet
Bitcoin.com has integrated USDU, the UAE's first Central Bank-registered US dollar stablecoin, into its self-custodial wallet. This move expands USDU's access beyond institutional channels to retail users, marking a significant step in regulated stablecoin adoption.

Global cryptocurrency platform Bitcoin.com announced the integration of USDU, a UAE-regulated, US dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Abu Dhabi-based Universal Digital Intl. Limited, into its self-custodial wallet. This strategic partnership aims to extend USDU's reach beyond institutional use, making it accessible to millions of retail users worldwide.
USDU holds the distinction of being the first and currently only US dollar-backed stablecoin registered as a Foreign Payment Token under the Central Bank of the UAE's (CBUAE) Payment Token Services Regulation (PTSR). Universal Digital Intl. Limited, which is also regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), ensures that each USDU token is 1:1 backed by liquid US dollar reserves held in regulated UAE banks. To enhance transparency, these reserves are independently attested monthly by a third-party accounting firm, with reports publicly available.
With this integration, Bitcoin.com wallet users will be able to hold, send, and receive USDU while retaining control of their private keys. The platform plans to introduce swap and buy-and-sell functionalities in the future, subject to support from third-party providers. Furthermore, Bitcoin.com will accept USDU for designated services and work towards enabling USDU payments between users and merchants across its products.
Since its launch in January, USDU has made significant strides. Designed for institutional use, USDU plays a crucial role within the UAE's digital asset payment framework. In May, a conversion rail was established between USDU and AE Coin, a UAE dirham-backed stablecoin, for institutional settlements. July saw Zodia Custody add support for USDU for institutional clients, and in August, a USDT-USDU liquidity pool was launched on Uniswap, boosting the token's decentralized liquidity.
This development reinforces the UAE's ambition to become a global hub for regulated digital assets. The integration of central bank-supervised stablecoins into retail wallets reflects a broader quest for increased adoption and stability in the overall cryptocurrency market. Analysts anticipate that such regulated stablecoins will build a bridge between traditional financial systems and blockchain-based economies, making digital payment ecosystems more reliable and transparent. However, regulatory restrictions in different jurisdictions may impact the global availability of all USDU features.
