Binance Launches Gold and Silver Options After Billions in Commodity Futures Volume
Crypto exchange Binance has introduced USDT-settled gold and silver options, following the strong performance of its commodity perpetual futures which saw billions in daily trading volume. This move expands access to traditional commodity markets through the crypto ecosystem.
Binance, one of the world's leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has announced the launch of gold and silver commodity options, expanding its product offerings for users. Introduced on July 29, 2026, these USDT-settled, European-style option contracts represent a significant part of the platform's strategy to integrate traditional finance (TradFi) products.
This initiative follows the substantial interest and record trading volumes observed in Binance's previously launched gold and silver perpetual futures contracts. According to representatives from the company, gold perpetuals achieved a peak daily trading volume of $7.77 billion, while silver perpetuals reached a peak of $7.27 billion. These volumes accounted for approximately 3-8% of COMEX gold trading and 9-20% of COMEX silver trading during that period.
The new options products are offered through Nest Exchange Limited, Binance's entity regulated by the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). European-style options grant buyers the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the underlying asset at a specified price upon expiry. This structure simplifies the risk profile for retail traders; buyers' maximum loss is capped at the premium paid, and long positions do not carry liquidation risk. Retail traders are permitted to buy options, but the ability to write (sell) options is reserved for authorized market makers.
Binance's launch of these new products further blurs the lines between digital asset markets and traditional commodity markets. The integration of traditional financial instruments into crypto exchanges signifies a notable transformation in global markets. This allows crypto investors to access traditional safe-haven assets like gold and silver, and inflation hedges, without leaving their platform.
Market analysts suggest that such products will garner significant interest, especially at a time when gold prices have reached record highs and investors are seeking hedges against inflation. Shunyet Jan, Binance's head of exchange and trading, indicated that the strong demand for commodity perpetuals demonstrates investors' interest in more sophisticated instruments. It is believed that such integrations can rapidly increase user participation and quickly make liquidity relevant by simplifying traditional market access.
This strategic move, alongside other traditional financial products like bStocks and direct equities, demonstrates Binance's effort to systematically build traditional finance exposure categories into its crypto-native infrastructure. This product diversification not only contributes to the maturation of the crypto ecosystem but also opens new avenues for investors in traditional markets.
