Adobe reported stronger sales as the software giant continues to benefit from growing demand for its cloud-based creative and document software. At the same time, the company said Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen plans to step down once a successor is identified to lead the company into its next phase centered on artificial intelligence.

Narayen has served as Adobe’s CEO since 2007 and is widely credited with transforming the company’s business model. During his tenure, Adobe shifted from selling boxed software to a subscription-based cloud platform, building major ecosystems such as Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, and Experience Cloud. The transition significantly strengthened recurring revenue and reshaped the company’s long‑term growth profile.

In recent years, Adobe has also been investing heavily in artificial intelligence tools across its product portfolio. The company’s generative AI platform Firefly and other AI-driven features embedded in Photoshop, Acrobat, and enterprise marketing tools are increasingly driving usage and monetization opportunities. Adobe has said AI‑influenced annual recurring revenue has already reached several billions of dollars.

The board has begun searching for a new leader capable of steering the company through the next stage of AI‑focused innovation. Narayen is expected to remain in the role until a successor is appointed and support the leadership transition as Adobe continues expanding its AI-powered software ecosystem.
